Comox Valley Head Injury
Society (CVHIS) is a registered nonprofit society established in
1991, and is committed to providing support for survivors & their
caregivers. CVHIS is also a member of the Comox Valley United
Way.
We provide support in 4
areas:
1. Education/Injury
Prevention
- We offer a yearly conference
where we share information and techniques for supporting people with
brain injuries.
- We produce a newsletter, every
three months, listing resources and activities for survivors.
- We have a resource library where
you can borrow books and articles to help understand some aspect of
the injury.
- We support TEAM TERRIFIC, a brain
injury prevention program, its delivery to high risk youth at local
high schools.
- We sell the TEAM TERRIFIC presentation
to other Brain Injury Associations so they can deliver the program to
high risk youth in their community.
2. Advocacy
- We offer Case Coordination which
means we help you organize your paper and appointments to get the
services you need.
- We like to teach you to advocate for
yourself; speak up for yourself so you can get the services you really
need.
3. Community Reintegration -
Recreation & Leisure Groups
- We offer a free clothing
exchange. Come to the office and see what we have that will fit
you.
- We offer drop in lunch every
Tuesday ($1 for survivors) and drop in dinners once a month.
- We offer a food library. Shelves
with dry food products for FREE.
- We offer recreation activities in the
community.
4. Skill Development
- We offer many support groups and
workshops that will assist with skill development and friendships building in a comfortable
setting.
